A Penguin Swims More Than 8000 Km Each Year To Find The Man Who Saved His Life

The behavior of animals often makes us think. This is what happened with the extraordinary story of a penguin and his relationship with the man who saved his life.

We have often had the opportunity to discover stories that show us how close the relationship between animals and humans can be. This is the case between a penguin and a man.

There are people who find it difficult to understand. But some animals get along very well with their owners and show their tenderness through incredible deeds.

The most common cases are those of cats and dogs. With the passage of the years, they indeed become members of the family.

There are also examples of cows, pigs. Or even other domestic species that get along well with the people who care for them.

Although these connections are more and more normal for us, there are still some stories that are difficult to believe and that move us.

This is the case of the friendship between a Brazilian pensioner and a penguin from Magallanes that he saved in 2011 when he was on the verge of death.

Their relationship was disclosed on social media and also in major international media. All of them underline the feeling of gratitude that the penguin feels towards its savior.

The story of the penguin Dindim

It all started on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, when a Brazilian retiree called Joao Pereira de Souza, who worked as a bricklayer and fisherman, found a Magallanes penguin who was on the verge of death.

The man became worried when he noticed something strange between the rocks on the beach. He walked over to see what it was.

To his surprise, he found this animal in appalling conditions, covered in oil and defenseless.

Of course, he didn’t ask himself any questions and he immediately saved him. He took care of him throughout his recovery.

He felt so much love for the animal that he named it Dindim and released it into the sea after it was healed.

During the farewell, Pereira thought he would never see this penguin again, not knowing that the latter was going to surprise him.

A few months after the rescue, Dindim returned to the beach and immediately recognized his savior. Since then, the animal has spent almost 8 months with Pereira and the rest of the time, he leaves for the coasts of Argentina and Chile to feed.

After

According to the Daily Mail, Dindim swims more than 8,000 km to return to see his human friend. The latter thus designed a special diet to improve the resistance and strength of the bird.

In the interview, the 71-year-old man expressed his feeling for the animal. Indeed, the latter will not let himself be touched by anyone else.

“I love this penguin like it’s my own child and I think he loves me too,  ” he said. “No one else can touch it. It bites if someone touches it. He lies down against me, he allows me to wash him and I give him sardines to eat, ”  he added.

Conclusion

Souza says that many people have told him that his friend will not come back after leaving, but he knows he will. For the past four years he has returned in June and returned home in February.

Biologist Paulo Krajewski, who interviewed Joao Pereira de Souza for Globo TV, expressed his amazement upon learning of this wonderful story.

“I had never seen such a thing before. I believe the penguin thinks Joao is part of his family, and that he is his species, ” he said. “When he sees it, he wags his tail like a dog,”  he added.

Another expert on this type of species said that Dindim’s behavior indicates that he recognizes Pereira as he would recognize another penguin and therefore acts accordingly.

Joao says goodbye to his friend knowing that he will return as he has for the past few years.

Without a doubt, here is another proof that animals are great friends and that they can be more than grateful.
