If we have a productive cough, we should not try to stop it, because this is how our body will eliminate viruses. However, there are various remedies that we can use to relieve the discomfort.

When the colder days start to arrive, a cough may appear.

The most common causes are the flu and the common cold, as they irritate the upper respiratory tract and produce mucus which must be removed in some way.

In this article, we offer you some home remedies for cough. If you are already suffering from the first symptoms of the onset of fall, you cannot miss them.

Cough is our defense system

Even when we are tired of coughing so much, we should be thankful for this symptom.

Why ? Because it is one of the ways that our organism has to clean itself.

If the cough is productive, we should not try to stop it because our body is shedding phlegm.

In the event that the cough is dry, we probably experience irritation and a scratchy throat, but we also need to remember that this is the cleansing mechanism that we have at our disposal.

This does not mean that there is nothing we can do to reduce or eliminate the cough.

  • As a first measure, it is necessary to know the cause of its occurrence: bronchitis, a cold, asthma or pneumonia.
  • It can also appear because of the immune system which works to expel dust, chemicals, irritants or microbes.
  • A cough can also appear when a foreign object gets stuck in the throat: food, liquids, a piece of something, etc.

If the cough persists for more than two weeks or while you cough up saliva mixed with blood, it is necessary to seek immediate medical attention.
